Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy Unveils First-of-its-Kind National Advanced Air Mobility Strategy and Comprehensive Plan Featuring Skyryse
SkyOS™, the world’s first operating system for flight, was featured in the plan and recognized for its role in enabling safer, more intuitive aircraft operations.
Washington DC (December 17, 2025) — Skyryse®, a leader in aviation automation and simplified flight controls, today announced its full appreciation and support for the United States’ first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Strategy and Comprehensive Plan.
Skyryse Founder and CEO Dr. Mark Groden joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs Dan Edwards and Federal Aviation Deputy Administrator Chris Rocheleau to unveil the plan and participate in a leadership roundtable focused on AAM’s most pressing issues.
Within its Automation pillar, the plan features SkyOS, the world’s first operating system for flight. Specifically the report details how aircraft equipped with simplified vehicle operations (SVO) like SkyOS, make flying simpler, safer, and smarter.
"’Simplified Vehicle Operations’ is a proposed design approach that relies on automation to reduce or eliminate tasks ordinarily accomplished by pilots. Simplified Flight Controls, a subset of Simplified Vehicle Operations, are air controls usable and installable into new or legacy aircraft that would make piloting an aircraft simpler for tasks regarding flight control and stabilization." – Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Strategy and Comprehensive Plan, 2025.
“Since the Wright brothers first took flight in 1903, America has been at the forefront of aviation innovation. Today, we have a bold strategy to unlock the future of our skies and unleash this next chapter of aviation safely and efficiently,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “Advanced air mobility vehicles will benefit the American people – transforming how the flying public travels, how first responders jump into action and communities access healthcare, how businesses deliver goods, and how we defend our nation. I look forward to working together to make this dream a reality.”
Skyryse’s inclusion in first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Strategy and Comprehensive Plan, comes just months after the FAA finalized its Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) rule. The new MOSAIC rule modernized the certification framework for aircraft and licensing requirements for pilots. By shifting from rigid weight-based categories to performance-based standards, the rule unlocked new opportunities for safer, more capable, and more accessible aviation technologies like SkyOS. MOSAIC allows fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft to be certificated as light sport aircraft, and specifically outlines how airplanes, helicopters and future vertical lift aircraft equipped with simplified vehicle operations (SVO) like SkyOS may only require 20 hours of pilot training. By decreasing the traditional training requirements by 50% when SVO is in use, the ruling acknowledges the impact simplified controls have in reducing the complexity and increasing the safety of piloting.
As an integrated hardware, software solution, SkyOS provides SVO through an intuitive human-machine interface and fly-by-wire system that enhances safety in all flying conditions. Featuring a single control stick and two touchscreens, Skyryse replaces conventional, complex mechanical flight controls with an intelligent, integrated system that is aircraft agnostic. By reducing pilot workload and affording pilots more time to focus on decision-making and flight management, SkyOS supports safe operations in all situations, including emergencies.
Skyryse would like to applaud the leadership of U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Deputy Assistant Secretary Dan Edwards, and Deputy Administrator Chris Rocheleau for their leadership in supporting innovation that helps democratize the skies and meets the realities of today’s aviation landscape.
